beugt das Knie vor Kardinal Schönborn
Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde, liebe Interessenten und Interessentinnen,
im letzten NEWSLETTER haben wir Sie darüber informiert,
dass WIR SIND KIRCHE Österreich am Samstag, den 23. April 2005 um 14 Uhr
eine Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema: "Freude und Hoffnung, Trauer und Angst,
10 Jahre Kirchenvolksbegehren"
in Wien, Uno-City-Kirche: "Christus, Heil der Welt"
durchführen wird.
Zu dieser Podiumsdiskussion herzlich eingeladen wurde auch eine von uns
Priesterinnen mit den Worten:
"Wir laden Sie ein unter der Diskussionsleitung von Herrn Dr. Hubert
Feichtlbauer in ca. 5 Minuten ein Statement zu den nachstehenden Fragen
abzugeben und anschließend miteinander am Podium zu diskutieren."
"Gerade weil wir glauben, dass Sie uns zu diesem Thema etwas zu sagen
haben, danken wir, dass Sie zugesagt haben, an dieser Veranstaltung teil
zu nehmen." (Zitate Einladungsbrief)
So weit - so gut.
Nunmehr hat sich jedoch Kardinal Schönborn eingeschaltet. Er will nicht,
dass eine "exkommunizierte Priesterin" in einer Kirche einen Auftritt
bekommt: "Kard. Schönborn hat uns mitgeteilt, dass er es nicht zulassen
könne, in seiner Kirche eine exkommunizierte Frau am Podium
auftreten zu
lassen."
Mehrere Emails wurden mit der "Plattform Wir sind Kirche"
gewechselt. Möglichkeiten,
unsere Priesterin nicht AUF das Podium, sondern neben oder unterhalb des
Podiums zu stellen, um sie von dort ihren Redebeitrag sprechen zu lassen,
wurden diskutiert. Auch wurde überlegt, den Platz der Priesterin am Podium
freizulassen und dort nur ihr Namensschild oder ein Bild von ihr
hinzustellen.
All das will der Kardinal jedoch nicht. Unsere Priesterin darf dort nicht
"auftreten", so die Bedingung.
Die Plattform meinte, unsere Priesterin könnte im Publikum sitzen und dann
wenn die Podiumsdiskussion vorbei ist, aus dem Publikum heraus ihre
Meinung sagen. Das ist zwar nett gemeint, aber wie Aschenputtel im
Publikum warten, bis die kirchlichen Hofherren die Sprecherlaubnis geben,
das ist für eine hochqualifizierte Frau zutiefst diskriminierend.
So bleibt unsere Priesterin fern. Sie werden sie in Wien auf Grund des
Machtwortes des Kardinals nicht sehen und hören können.

2. ORDINATIONEN IM JULI DIESES JAHRES
Wir sind begeistert, dass die erste öffentliche Priesterinnenweihe in
diesem Jahr immer näher rückt: Es sind nur noch 10 Wochen bis zur Weihe
von Genevieve Beney in Lyons am 2. Juli 2005 und ein paar weitere Wochen
bis zur Weihe auf dem St.Lawrence River am 25. Juli 2005. Beide Weihen
sind große kirchliche Ereignisse und viele Leute werden dort sein, um mit
uns zu zelebrieren und sich mit uns zu freuen. Filmteams werden ebenso wie
Journalisten kommen. Bücher werden geschrieben werden.

1.1 T H E C A R D I N A L 'S "N O"
OR 'WIR SIND KIRCHE' (WE ARE CHURCH), AUSTRIA
BENDS THE KNEE BEFORE CARDINAL SCHÖNBORN
Dear Friends and all who are interested in our undertakings:
In our last Newsletter, we informed you that there will be a Panel
Discussion on Saturday 23 April at 14.00 on the theme: Joy and Hope,
Sadness and Fear; 10 Years of the People's Grassroots Church Movement.
This 10th-year anniversary event will take place in Vienna in the
Uno-City Church, 'Christ, Saviour of the World'.
One of our womenpriests here in Europe was invited to be a member of
this panel. The invitation was worded as follows:
"You have been asked to participate in the Panel Discussion, which will
be moderated by Dr. Hubert Feichtlbauer. Each participant is invited to
make a five-minute statement in response to the attached questions and
then to participate in the discussion which follows.
It is precisely because we believe that you have something worthwhile to
say as you speak to this theme, that we thank you for agreeing to be on
the panel."
So far, so good.
Now, however, Cardinal Schönborn of Vienna has intervened. He will not
allow an 'excommunicated womanpriest' to appear on the stage as part of
the panel in an event which takes place on church property.
Since his intervention, many emails have been sent back and forth
between our group in Europe and the 'Wir sind Kirche' organizers of the
event. Other possibilities were discussed, e.g. that our womanpriest
would speak, not from her place on the stage, but from a place in the
hall below the stage. In her place on the panel, there could be a
picture of her with her name. (There was also the possibility of
changing the venue, but this was not taken up by the organizers.)
However, these and other suggestions of ours were all turned down. The
Cardinal will simply not allow a womanpriest to be part of the panel,
they said, even if she speaks from somewhere else in the hall.
The organizers then said that the only solution they could offer was
that the womanpriest sit in the audience. When the panel discussion is
over, she may stand up and give her opinion as a member of the audience
- "but not for longer than three minutes. We haven't got all day!"
This may have been well-meant as a compromise, but for her to wait like
Cinderella in the audience until her 'rulers and betters' have had their
say and then allow her to say her piece, very briefly, when it is in
fact all over ... this is too severe an act of discrimination against a
highly-qualified woman.
So our womanpriest has withdrawn from the event altogether. Her voice,
her opinion, her contribution will not be heard in Vienna on that day.
We are sad about this turn of events and we ask:

1.2 ORDINATIONS IN JULY
We are all getting excited as the first public R.C. Womenpriest
ordinations of this year draw near: it is only ten weeks to the
ordination of Genevieve Beney in Lyons on 2 July and a few more weeks to
the ordination of a group of womenpriests and -deacons on the St
Lawrence on 25 July. Both will be major church events and many people
will be there to celebrate and rejoice with us. If you wish to attend
the Lyons ordination of 2 July, please email Genevieve Beney at

1.3 ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE DRAFT CONSTITUTIONS

1-1- LE « NON » DU CARDINAL OU « NOUS SOMMES EGLISE » ,Autriche ,
S 'INCLINE DEVANT LE CARDINAL SCHÖNBORN

Dans notre dernière lettre d'information , nous vous informions qu'il y aurait
Samedi 23 avril 05 à 14 h. une table ronde sur le thème suivant : Joie et Espoir,Tristesse et Peur ;10 ans de la Communauté de base «Nous sommes Eglise» . Cet anniveraire se déroulera à Vienne dans l'église d' Uno-City « Christ , Sauveur du Monde ».
Une de nos femmes prêtres ici en Europe a été invitée à cette table ronde .Voici le texte de l'invitation :
« On vous a demandé de participer à la table ronde qui sera animée par
Dr. Hubert Feichtlbauer.Chaque participant est invité à faire une réponse de cinq minutes aux questions ci-jointes , puis à participer à la discussion qui suivra . C'est précisément parce que nous pensons que vous pouvez faire une contribution valable sur ce thème que nous vous remercions d'avoir accepté de participer à cette rencontre . »
Jusque là ,tout va bien .
Mais c'est ici qu'intervient le Cardinal Schönborn de Vienne . Il ne permet pas qu'une « femme prêtre excommuniée »soit sur l'estrade dans la table ronde puisque l'événement se déroule dans une propriété de l'église.
Depuis son intervention , beaucoup d'e-mails ont circulé entre notre groupe européen et les organisateurs ( « Nous sommes église » ) de cet événement .
On a envisagé d'autres possibilités , par exemple que notre femme prêtre prenne la parole , non depuis l'estrade mais depuis la salle . A sa place à la table, il pourrait y avoir son nom et sa photo . (on pouvait aussi changer le lieu de réunion mais les organisateurs n'ont pas suivi cette suggestion )
Quoi qu'il en soit nos différentes suggestions ont toutes été refusées. Le Cardinal ,disent -ils/elles , ne peut admettre qu'il y ait une femme prêtre à la table ronde même si elle parle de la salle .
Les organisateurs proposèrent alors comme seule solution qu'elle se fonde dans l'assistance et qu'elle puisse ainsi se lever et intervenir comme tout membre de l'assistance « mais pas plus de trois minutes . Nous n'avons pas toute la journée ! »
Ceci pouvait passer pour un compromis bienveillant, mais la faire attendre ainsi comme Cendrillon que ses maîtres et supérieurs aient fini leurs discours pour l'autoriser à dire son petit mot rapide, une fois que tout est en réalité terminé ? c'est vraiment une discrimination trop sévère envers une femme hautement qualifiée.
Donc notre femme prêtre s'est retirée complètement de la manifestation . Ce jour là , on n'entendra pas à Vienne sa voix, son opinion, sa contribution .
Cela nous attriste et nous posons la question :

1-2-LES ORDINATIONS DE JUILLET
Notre impatience augmente à l'approche des premières ordinations publiques de femmes catholiques romaines de cette année . Dans dix semaines ordination de Geneviève Beney à Lyon le 2 Juillet et quelques semaines plus tard celle de femmes prêtres et de femmes diacres sur le Saint Laurent le 25 Juillet .
Les deux seront de grands évènements d'église et nombreux seront les participants pour célébrer et se réjouir avec nous .
